Follow these 3 Tips for Proper Preventative Industrial Electrical Systems Maintenance

Troy Medina

Everyone understands that the four basic rules of ensuring that electrical system are ensuring that the system stays clean, dry, tight and friction-free. However, this does not mean that they always follow the right maintenance processes to make sure that the state of the wiring is maintained. One of the weaknesses which people have when it comes to domestic and industrial electrical wiring maintenance is that they tend to wait till something stops working before they address it. Here are the three tips which will help you properly maintain your electrical systems.

1. Tightening up loose connections

As mentioned, one of the leading causes of problems with the electrical systems is loose connections. Loose connections can happen for any variety of reasons including the regular wear and tear, use of excessive force to when moving appliances around and some other causes. Loose connections often lead to short-circuiting which can cause massive electrical fires. Call in a competent electrician to check your links and ensure that any bits which are coming loose have been tightened up before they become a problem.

2. Inspecting heating shut down mechanisms

The most crucial component of an electrical system is the shutdown mechanism. You do not have to wait until there is a power surge to find out if your fuses and circuit breakers are still sufficient enough to shut down the system and prevent a fire if the need arose. Take time and inspect all the fuses. Signs of destruction include the presence of smoke on the parts, failure to turn on and off when manipulated by hand and even lack current when a tester is used. Ruined circuit breakers should be replaced as soon as they are discovered because they are the first defence that your house has against a possible fire.

3. Locating unusual noises and smells

Here, you have to look for odd things such as strange noises such as static coming from some of the sockets, or the smell of plastic burning. In many cases, when the parts of a socket become loose and start short-circuiting, the inner structure of the unit begins burning up before you can see the visual damage. Picking out these odd smells will help locate a malfunctioning unit before it creates fire.

Other checks which you can make part of your inspection include overheating appliances, discolouration and other signs of malfunctioning electrical systems. Preventative maintenance saves you money, lowers your bills and lengthens the life of your electrical equipment.
